AUSTRIA: MAX.MOBIL'S PLANS FOR 2000

The Austrian company Max.mobil, which was set up as a mobile phone service provider four years ago and is now owned 91% by Deutsche Telekom, expects a turnover of Sch 13.5bn and black figures in year 2000. In 1999 turnover from mobile phone services rose from Sch 4.5bn to Sch 9.2bn and the number of clients from 787,000 to 1.5mn. Max.mobil expects to gain as clients 400,000 of the 1.2mn new mobile phone users in Austria in year 2000. The company aims to increase the share of corporate clients from 20% in 1999. Max.mobil aims to strengthen customer loyalty by offering a comprehensive service of mobile and fixed-line telephony and internet. About 120,000 clients are using Max.mobil's fixed line telephone services. Max.mobil is to make investments of Sch 4.5bn in year 2000, up from Sch 3.7bn in 1999. The company is to expand its existing mobile phone network and the 1,800-MHz one. Coverage is to be improved in the in-house segment and in the Vienna underground. Max.mobil is to launch a General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) service in summer 2000.

AUSTRIA: CONNECT AUSTRIA TO DOUBLE CUSTOMERS

Article Abstract:

The telecom operator One expects a turnover of Sch 7.1bn in year 2000, up from Sch 2bn in 1999. The number of clients is to be raised to more than 1mn. At the end of 1999 the company had 620,000 mobile phone subscribers and 45,000 fixed-line telephony subscribers, while about 25,000 clients used the internet service i-One. One is to make investments of Sch 3bn and expects to reach black figures in 2001.

AUSTRIA: UTA PLANNING TO GO PUBLIC

Article Abstract:

UTA, the Austrian fixed-line telephony and internet access provider controlled by Swisscom, has engaged JP Morgan as a consultant for going public, which will take place between autumn 2000 and spring 2001. UTA chairman Kurt Luscher expects that a minority holding will be launched on the stock exchange. According to Mr Luscher, UTA will participate in the Austrian UMTS auction in November 2000.
