AUSTRIA: MILK PRICES RISING

Article Abstract:

Stephan Mikinovic, managing director of Agrarmarkt Austria Marketing, expects a considerable increase in milk product prices in Austria in the near future. He says that prices are already rising through a shift towards smaller packaging sizes in some milk products. In the first quarter of 2001 there was an upturn in fresh milk consumption in Austria, which increased by almost 2%. This follows years of decline. The sales of UHT milk surged by more than 40%. The sales of cheese increased at a double-digit rate.
