AUSTRIA: NEW SERVICES BY CONNECT AUSTRIA

Article Abstract:

The Austrian mobile phone operator One , which became operational a year ago, has so far gained 350,000 clients and expects a turnover of Sch 1.7bn in 1999. By the end of year 2000 One aims to gain one-third of the Austrian mobile telephony market in value terms. By the end of year 2000 One is to invest another Sch 3bn. The company expects to break even in 2001. In November 1999 One is to introduce free internet access. The service will be offered under the title "I-One". One will be the first mobile phone service provider in Austria to introduce the HSCSD standard. The data cards will be available from the end of November 1999 for Sch 6,000-7,000. The calls will cost Sch 3 per minute.

The German software company Materna has set up a Development Centre in Graz. The new unit in Austria will develop wireless application protocol solutions for the Windows 2000 operating system. In October 2000, Materna is to launch the interface Anny Way, targeting especially intranet applications.
