AUSTRIA: NOM CONCERNED ABOUT MILK SUPPLY

Article Abstract:

The Lower Austrian dairy NOM is concerned about losing milk suppliers to German milk processing companies. Several dairy farmers from Salzburg and Upper Austria have already signed long-term contracts with Bavarian dairies, which pay up to Sch 0.50 more per kilo of milk than Austrian dairies. NOM warns that since only large-scale milk producers are of interest to the Germans, Austrian dairies will be left with smaller producers and will therefore have even less opportunity to pay higher prices for the milk.
