AUSTRIA: STEYR NUTZFAHRZEUGE TO BOOST PRODUCTION

Article Abstract:

Steyr Nutzfahrzeuge AG, Austrian Steyr-based subsidiary of German MAN group, is to increase production of light and medium-sized trucks by about 30% to 22,000-23,000 units in the financial year 2000/2001. In 1999/2000, Steyr Nutzfahrzeuge saw a 31% increase in turnover to EUR 676.1mn. As a result of pressure on prices and the company's investments, profit on ordinary activities fell to EUR 3.1mn from EUR 111.6mn a year earlier.

Austria: Steyr jobs under threat

Article Abstract:

Austrian commercial vehicle producer Steyr Nutzfahrzeuge has warned that it may have to reduce the number of staff by 280 from 2,921 at present. The company expects the west European truck market to shrink by another 10% in 2002, following a fall in demand of the same extent in 2001. Steyr Nutzfahrzeuge exports 95% of its output.
