Ahold posts weak net profit amid tough U.S. competition

Article Abstract:

A weak showing in the U.S. market has resulted in low second-quarter net profits for Dutch retailer Koninklijke Ahold NV. The one bright spot among Ahold's U.S. subsidiaries is the earnings at its U.S. Foodservice unit. Meanwhile, in Europe, Ahold's operating income has more than doubled. The retailer currently faces investigation from regulatory agencies in the U.S. and Holland due to an accounting scandal.
