Akzo sets '99 as time for consolidation

Article Abstract:

Akzo Nobel NV announced that the 1999 year will be a period of consolidation for the company. Akzo only posted a 1% rise in its net profits in 1998. The chemical group, based in the Netherlands, said it would focus on integrating the firms that it acquired in 1998. Akzo also said it would concentrate on demerging the new Acordis fibers company. In 1998, Akzo posted a 1% increase in net profit to 1.63 billion guilders.

Akzo may consider splitting off its drugs division
