Alcatel will reorganize telecommunications unit

Article Abstract:

Alcatel will restructure its major telecommunications unit Alcatel Telecom in response to the plunge in its share price and loss of shareholder confidence in the company. The restructuring plan calls for the company to divide its telecommunications group into three corporate units and promoted a number of executives to senior posts at the unit. Alcatel appointed Krish Prabhu as senior vice president of the unit and announcement that the unit will conduct its financial reporting on a quarterly basis in 1999.

SBS awards net contract to Alcatel

Article Abstract:

Alcatel SA has confirmed that it received a contract from SBC Communications Inc. to supply asymmetric digital subscriber line equipment for the company's Project Pronto high-speed Internet service. Project Pronto is valued at $6 billion (Euro5.54 billion). Although an Alcatel spokesman would not give financial information about the accord, market-watchers estimated it to be as high as $4.5 billion. The spokesman did say that the contract was not exclusive.

Alcatel to sell plants, outsource most production

Alcatel SA is planning to divest the majority of its plants around the world by the end of 2002. The company will also outsource most of its production operations.
