An American in Docklands

Article Abstract:

UK landscape architects Derek Lovejoy have been involved from the beginning in a project to develop a luxury hotel and apartments on a London Docklands site. Early involvement is more common when working with American architects. The landscape architects have been able to advise on structural and engineering points, and to incorporate some of the architectural details into the landscape design. The landscape architects are keen to establish a landscape which can be enjoyed for the view it provides, and which will withstand strong prevailing winds.

Driven by design: BDP's design for Opel's new HQ in Russelsheim, Germany, overcame the tradition of German working hierarchies to create an egalitarian workspace with a twist of individuality

Article Abstract:

BDP was the architect for Opel's new HQ building in Russelsheim, Germany. The building consists of blocks of offices, featuring a structural grid, with a fit-out grid of 1.5m. In-situ concrete columns with precast beams and thick precast slabs, act as the permanent formwork for the floors. Internally, escalators are used to link floors, instead of lifts. The atrium displays the latest models of cars.
