Heirarchical structures in organizations: a conceptual framework

Article Abstract:

A general framework for the analysis of various hierarchical structures of a given organization is presented. The model provides a unified perspective on hierarchical algorithms, hierarchical planning, principal-agent relationships and hierarchical negotiations. It is shown that management can be considered as a planning and leadership activity for controlling the relationship between individual decision processes.

Sevast'yanov's algorithm for the flow-shop scheduling problem

Article Abstract:

Various versions of the Sevast'yanov algorithm based on linear programming have been used to solve the flow-shop scheduling problem. Computational tests with random instances reaching 1,000 jobs and 100 machines were performed using Cplex. The Sevast'yanov algorithm proved to be suitable for running-time-sensitive instances, especially when large-scale environments with relatively few machines are involved.
