Angel investors, including professionals, entrepreneurs, and individuals, are filling the gap created by venture capitalists in the UK who are moving away from investing in early-stage and start-up firms. Monetary gains for angel investors are typically a result of not paying too much for the initial investment, establishing an appropriate financial structure, understanding a firm's life cycle, and assisting with key issues.

J-Power resists U.K. fund: Japan utility objects to activist TCI's style in pushing for change

Proposals made by Children's Investment Fund Management (UK) LLP, known as TCI, have been rejected by Japan's Electric Power Development Company Ltd., in which TCI owns a 9.9% stake. The proposals included allowing two TCI employees on the utility's board, improving corporate governance, and selling cross-shareholdings. The rejection emphasizes differences between management and foreign investors.
