Aluminum falls on Alcan plan to restart smelters

Alcan Aluminum Ltd. will restart idled capacity to 110,000 metric tons at its Sebree smelter in Kentucky and Lynemouth smelter in the U.K. The news resulted in a $9 drop to $1,469.50 (1,616.70 euros) at the London Metal Exchange.

Anglo American is set to post modest profit drop in 1st half

Article Abstract:

Anglo American PLC is expected to post a moderate decline in its profits for the 2001 first-half. The company is forecasting $900 million (1.02 billion euros) in net income for the year, compared to $951 million in the same 2000 period.

MG to take over Billiton Metals

Article Abstract:

Billiton Metals Ltd., a UK metals brokerage firm, is being taken over by MG Ltd., a London, UK, brokerage house, but will proceed running its business independently, at least for the time being, according to an MG official. MG is purchasing all shares in Billiton, with the takeover taking effect on Oct. 30, 1998, according to an official. Parent firm Billiton PLC will obtain a 12.3% interest in MG Ltd. as a result of the deal. Also, Billiton PLC will have a presence on the board of MT Ltd., according an official.
