Apollo, Blackstone express interest in Northern Rock

US investment firms The Blackstone Group and Apollo Management L.P. are examining a possible purchase of UK mortgage bank Northern Rock PLC. Northern Rock's number of potential buyers is likely to increase, as it has lined up funding through Citigroup Inc. to facilitate a takeover. Funding could total as much as $20 bil.

Freescale agrees to Blackstone offer
