Apparent heir

Article Abstract:

It initially appears that the work of architect Louis Kahn in India and Bangladesh follows on directly from that of Le Corbusier, who was in turn working in the style of Lutyens. However, closer inspection reveals important differences between Le Corbusier and Kahn, with Kahn taking the essence of Le Corbusier's ideas and developing them in his own way. The work of Kahn in Dhaka, for example, has a much more 'closed' form than that of Le Corbusier in Chandigarh, although Kahn does draw on some North American work of Le Corbusier.

A sense of proportion: The systems that governed Erno Goldfinger's architecture are explored on the tenth anniversary of his death

Article Abstract:

The systems governing Erno Goldfinger's architecture are explored. Alexander Fleming House (1960) was recently converted into houses, and the Carr & Co offices in Birmingham (1957) and Balfron Tower (1965) have been listed. Goldfinger's Albermarle Street office building (1955) was previously discussed with regard to whether its proportions were based on the Golden Section. The proportions of Alexander Fleming House were controlled by the Golden Section throughout.
