Appel d'offres pour trois centrales lectriques dans le Sina

Article Abstract:

Egypt is getting ready to issue an international invitation to tender for the construction of three electric power stations of 650 megawatts each on the Sinai peninsula. They will be built as part of a Build Operate Transfer (BOT) concession. Egypt is to also launch a new invitation to tender for the construction of three other electric power stations in the Suez region. Other invitations to tender for the construction of fifteen other electric power stations are to be launched between 1999 and 2005. These contracts, which represent a total investment of US$ 7.2bn for a total capacity of 9,350 megawatts, and will be attributed to private companies.

Article Abstract:

Egypt's energy demand is expected to come to 11,500 megawatts by the year 2000, compared with 9,500 at present and it is expected to reach 20,000 megawatts by the year 2010. In order to cope with this rise in demand, the country is going to launch 15 new electrical projects in BOOT (Build Own Operate and Transfer), for 9,350 megawatts and an investment of US$ 7.2bn. Interested foreign private investors i may be granted credit facilities, a tax exemption, currency conversion, repatriation of profits and protection against nationalisation.

Article Abstract:

Egypt will put its eight electricity distribution companies under state control of the Egyptian Electricity Authority by the year 2002, which will make it possible to form consolidated production and distribution companies. The public will be offered 20% of their capital. New power station construction projects in BOOT (Build Own Operate and Transfer) are being studied, such as that of a 650 megawatt solar power station at Suez.
