Approximation method for M/PH/1 retrial queues with phase type inter-retrial times

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to approximate the stationary distribution and waiting time moments of an M/PH/1 retrial queue with phase type inter-retrial times. The objective is to extend a previous method that is applicable to retrial times and general service. The approximation was applied to the generator of the queue itself instead of applying it only in the measurement of the stationary distribution. The approximation's performance is evaluated based on a set of instances for which exact solutions can be derived.

Periodicity of the profile process in Markov manpower systems

Article Abstract:

A new, unified approach for addressing the periodicity problem in Markov manpower systems is presented. The method specifies the conditions which are necessary and sufficient for periodicity on the recruitment distribution and the wastage probabilities. The results show that recruitment control on the entire system is exercised through the first cyclic subclass of the state space of the individual level chain.
