Article Abstract:

Some companies are taking a fresh look at the production of annual reports. Companies spend a great amount of time and money producing annual reports, yet these documents are barely read, due to their uninteresting style or their failure to present useful information. Companies have to supply some information to meet statutory requirements, but they also want to present other information to all the different stakeholders in their business. One solution to the dilemma is to present a summary financial statement along with a separate report, in a different style, to communicate other information.

Gearing up for the golden age

Article Abstract:

In the 20 years from 1975 to 1995, the number of 55 to 65 year-old working men was reduced from 90% to 60% and there are 1.2 million people in this age group who want to work, but cannot because of ageism. More of the larger UK companies are now employing older workers, but managerial positions are still difficult to find. Frustration in this area led Ian Holms, aged 56 years, to start up the Mature Workers Register, based in Bournemouth, UK, which is funded by the Dorset Training Council and Enterprise Council and the Employment Service.

Electronic commerce: distribution's downfall?

Article Abstract:

Electronic commerce is now being used in many innovative ways, but is still a source of some concern among logistics professionals. There is uncertainty about what operations are actually included within electronic commerce, and it is becoming clear that electronic commerce has the potential to create problems as well as to solve them. Above all, it is transforming ordinary market-places into electronic 'market-spaces' where the usual rules of logistics are no longer relevant.
