In Latvia the traditional soft drink, kvas, is making a comeback. Kvas had a 32% share of the soft drink market in Latvia in the first half of 2000. The drink, however, is now being mass-produced and pasturized; and is now, critics say, no different than cola.

Parex net soared in 2000

AS Parex Bank posted a more than twofold increase in its net profits for the 2000 year. The bank posted 10 million lats (17.9 millione euros) in net profits for the year.
