Australia, New Zealand reach pact on single aviation market

Article Abstract:

The Australian and New Zealand governments have signed an agreement for the creation of a single aviation market for the two countries starting Nov. 1, 1996. Under the terms of the agreement, Australian and New Zealand air carriers will enjoy unrestricted rights to fly directly to and from any location within the two countries. However, carriers must meet certain criteria in order to operate in the single aviation market.

CAL and EVA are battling to rule the skies

Article Abstract:

Taiwan has two world-class airlines, namely, China Air Lines and EVA Airways. The former long dominated Taiwanese air space until the Evergreen Group decided to put up EVA Airways in 1991 to challenge this monopoly. The two are neck to neck in terms of market share and profits although the older airline still enjoys the edge in terms of passenger traffic to both Japan and Hong Kong.

Singapore ends Air India bid

Article Abstract:

Singapore Airlines has withdrawn is bid for Air India, citing the intensity of the opposition to the privatizations of Air India from other quarters, such as political groups, trade unions and the media. The withdrawal is a serious blow to the Indian government's privatization program. The privatization program and Singapore Airlines' decision are discussed.
