Australian sale wins applause

Article Abstract:

Australia's program to sell 22 airport leases has so far been successful. After two rounds of bidding, a total of 17 airports have been sold for a total of A$4 billion ($2.7 billion), which is higher than government expectations. The Ministry for Finance and Adminitration said the first round had a high price earning multiple of 18.3 while the second round is not far behind with 17.6. BZW Australia, the government's financial adviser attributes the program's success partly to a trade sale strategy. Bidders had the option of selecting the airport combinations, rather than imposing pre-set groups of airports.
