Bayer enters pact to expand research

Article Abstract:

Bayer AG is collaborating with Exelixis Pharmaceuticals Inc. to form the research venture company, Genoptera L.L.C. which is to expand Bayer's research of agrochemicals. Bayer remains committed to agrochemicals because of the strength it holds in that market and plans to focus research on nematocides, or worm killers.

BASF beats out competition to buy Cyanamid of U.S

BASF AG has reached an agreement to acquire the agricultural products operations of American Home Products Corp. for $3.8 billion (3.9 billion euros). BASF outbidded other rivals for the operations.

Medarex goes to Europe for alliance on new unit

Article Abstract:

Medarex Inc. (New Jersey, USA) opened a new unit called Genmab ApS (Berlin, Germany) with financial aid from BankInvest (Denmark). The biomedical research company hopes to develop new human antibodies for treating inflammatory diseases using cutting edge technology. The German government has recently decided to make the country a more friendly place for biotech companies. So, the Berlin location is not unexpected. The alliance between Medarex and BankInvest shows a change in the biotech industry. Previously, earnings were rather flat, with new investments down 44 percent.
