Goodlass Nerolac Paints Ltd is part of the Tata group. The Tata group holds 39.24 percent stake, Forbes Gokak (another Tata company) 30.14 percent, financial institutions 16.84 percent and the public 11.79 percent in Goodlass Nerolac Paints Ltd. Its plant at Lower Parel has an installed capacity of 18,454 tonnes per annum. Its factory at Kanpur Dehat has a capacity of 19,800 tonnes per annum. Its facility at Lote Parasuram, which started production in April 1998, has a capacity of 24,000 tonnes per annum. Goodlass Nerolac Paints Ltd has 2 subsidiaries - GNP (Madras) Ltd at Perungudi in Chennai and Saurashtra Paints Ltd at Ahmedabad in Gujarat. It is a leader in the industrial and decorative paints segments. It has contracts for supply of paints to Hyundai Motors, Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company, Mitsubishi Lancer and Mercedes Benz projects. Its sales fell by 7.30 percent in 1997-98. MALLYA'S KENYAN PAINTS COMPANY TO BE TAKEN OVER

Vijay Mallya, the promoter of the UB group, proposes to allow the takeover of a group company - Crown Berger Paints (CBP) of Kenya. CBP, a paints producer, will be acquired by the H Ramji Group of Mozambique. In 1997, CBP suffered a 7 percent fall in its sales to 1.18 billion Kenyan shillings. (ag)
