BNP bids for two French rivals

Article Abstract:

Banque Nationale de Paris, in the hope of preventing the merger of two competitors, is attempting to acquire both. The two candidates, Societe Generale and PAriibas S.A., were in the process of merging when the proposed purchase was announced. If completed, the combining of the three institutions would create one of the largest banking groups in the world, worth approximately $56.44 billion.
