Babywear and children's clothing in Italy

Article Abstract:

Some 5.5% of the value of total clothing production in Italy is accounted for by babywear and children's clothing. The largest of the two subsectors is children's clothing, with a 76% production share and an 82% expenditure share. Imports since 1992 have risen by more than 22%, while exports have improved by only 13%. Retail sales of the two subsectors amounted to some L5.15 trillion in 1996. It is expected that the current trends will continue, with only modest growth being achieved.

Babywear and children's wear in Germany

Article Abstract:

The German market for babywear and children's wear had an estimated value of around 6 billion German marks at retail prices in 1996. Large-scale retail outlets and multiples account for more than 60% of sales. Many items are now imported, and there are no large domestic producers. The market is set to grow even weaker as the birth rate remains low and consumers continue to trade down.
