Bad connection

Article Abstract:

Investors are becoming more discriminating in choosing Asian telecommunications stocks. Telecommunications stocks have been a favorite among investors due to the region's expanding market, but increased competition and a move to reduce international call rates have tempered the buying spree. Increased competition is a particular problem for the cellular phone sector, which is expected to suffer from declining return on equity and increased marketing costs as a result of the additional competition. Meanwhile, the US Federal Communications Commission's proposal to slash international call rates, is expected to hurt international phone operators.
