Bahamas telecoms sale

Telecommunications company, Bahamas Telephone Company (Batelco) is to be privatised during 1998. The company reported financial turnaround in 1997, lifting profit to $16 million from a loss of $2 million in 1992. The UK's Cable & Wireless is rumoured to be a potential bidder for the 49% share available to foreign investors. The remaining stake is expected to be shared by the government and local investors.
