Bandage bandits

Article Abstract:

Government programs account for some 46% of the more than $1 trillion spent on health in the US annually. Medicaid is one of the biggest government programs, and aims to help poor people. There has been an investigation into allegations of fraud relatingto Medi-Cal, the Californian Medicaid program. The investigation has led to 75 companies being charged, and the total amount involved could be as much as $50 million. A further 250 companies are being investigated, and the FBI estimates that $200 million worth of spending on medical supplies would be affected. There may also be involvement from former narcotics dealers.
