Banks healthy: rating agency

Article Abstract:

International ratings agency Fitch IBCA said 2% of bank loans were currently non-performing and that banks had set aside reserves to cover approximately 20% of these non performing loans (NPLs). This showed that banks in Hong Kong were quite healthy. ka wah to secure $540 mn loan for housing project

Ka Wah International Merchant Finance will join other banks to lend out HK$540 mn for Tycoon Place development. The project involves 84 blocks in Tai Po. The banks who join the syndicated loan included Citic Ka Wah Bank, Union Bank, Kincheng Finance (HK), Industrial & Commercial Bank of China and Kwangtung Provincial Bank. The lending reflects the financial institutions of China backing are confident towards Hong Kong's long-term economic conditions and property market. *

Dah Sing looks into three-way bank union to weather storm

Dah Sing Bank's holding company, Dah Sing Financial Group, is studying a merger with two other medium-size banks. Michael Chan, a Jardine Fleming analyst expected the bank targeted Wing Hang Bank and Wing Lung Bank. However, Leo Wah, an analyst at G K Goh said the merger might not succeed because it was difficult to manage the merged company as there was close relationship between the two targeted banks. *
