Beijing orders the Chinese media to toe the party line

Article Abstract:

China officials have been strict on the media, having summoned 150 media bureaucrats and editors to Beijing in order to warn them not to stray away from what the party dictates. The two points of focus for which these pressures are being exerted are the coming entry into the World Trade Organization, and the congress of the communist elite for the coming year. The leadership is determined to remain in control of these two events.

APEC forum seeks balance

Article Abstract:

The annual meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation saw the U.S. and China bringing forth different agendas. The U.S. wanted to recruit support for its anti-terrorist coalition, as well as try to get things back to normal. China wanted to boast about its strong economic growth, its commitment to free trade and its willingness to participate in anti-terrorist movements.

Postal service prods investigators to unwrap its rivals

Article Abstract:

China Post, China's express-delivery service, is investigating foreign delivery services in an attempt to jump ahead in the express-delivery market. Among the companies already investigated are Fedex, UPS, and DHL. The success of China Post would boost its position upon entry into the World Trade Organization.
