Belfast embraces design as ship-building dwindles

Article Abstract:

A shipping theme will be encouraged by developers overseeing the regeneration of shipping industry industrial sites in the city of Belfast, Northern Ireland. The town was once the home of many ship builders, and even the Titanic was built there. A collapse of the industry has motivated existing firms to look to business park developments, retail centres and leisure facilities as a way of regenerating the harbour and port areas. The Waterfront Hall music venue will be the focal point of the new development.

Architects slam Prescott's 'simplistic' greenfield tax

Article Abstract:

Aims by the UK government to increase the number of new homes built on brownfield sites to 60% has resulted in a 500 million pounds sterling taxation of greenfield sites by the Secretary for State John Prescott. Architects believe a more positive way to encourage the use of brownfield sites would be to rant subsidies rather than imposing charges for those using greenfield site.
