Belgacom et Tele Danmark: un r seau DCS 1800aux Pays-Bas

Article Abstract:

Belgacom and Tele Danmark , via the jointly held company BruCop (70.6% and 29.4% respectively), have gained the authorisation to obtain 6 licences from the Netherlands authorities allowing it to operate a DCS 1800 network in Holland. The total cost of the licences was Fl 300mn. BruCop will be able to offer a 16.6 MhZ band coverage across the whole of the territory. 2 national licences and 16 regional licences were awarded to various companies, including Libertel (Vodafone) and Federa (France T l com), by the Netherlands authorities in February 1998, Tele Danmark obtained 4 licences at this point, which have been transferred to BruCop in the present project. A 100% subsidiary company of BruCop will be created in order to operate the future DCS network, it will be based at La Haye in the Den Haag region, and 500 jobs will be created before the end of 1999. Other investors may enter the capital, yet BruCop's control will not fall below 51%. The project is part of Belgacom's strategy to invest in neighbouring countries, France, Holland, Luxembourg and West Germany.

Article Abstract:

Belgacom has just issued a tender bid to have antennae and other structures installed to increase the performance of its existing mobile phone networks. The bid runs until 15 September 1998. The Belgian telephone operator has just closed a tender bid to set up a high-speed paging network which will be operational by the end of 1998. The network, which will combine the Ermes and Flex protocols on a single radio canal and at a high speed, should be able to communicate with the existing network.

Belgacom se dote d'un r seau transatlantique

Article Abstract:

Some 50 telecoms operators have associated to jointly develop a new underwater optic fibre network to connect the US to Europe over 15,000 kilometres. The network, called TAT 14, will require a BFr 55bn investment. Belgacom, the Belgian operator, will invest BFr 300mn. This new 640-gibabits per second network, to be operated as from end-2000, will allow to transmit 7.7mn of communications simultaneously.
