Belgian privatisation gathers momentum

Article Abstract:

The Belgian government's privatisation programme, established in 1992, aimed to raise a total of 50 billion Belgian francs in the period 1994-1996. A Commission was created to identify suitable targets, set prices for assets and to negotiate deals. So far, the Commission has been very successful, and a number of large privatisations have been undertaken. Latest plans include the sale of the government's 25.1% shareholding in Credit Agricole to Belgian bank BACOB.

Diamonds a saw point in Belgian buyout

Article Abstract:

Diamant Boart, a Belgian manufacturer and supplier of diamond tools, has been purchased by leveraged buyout house Candover for Bfr5.5 billion from Union Miniere. This deal involves the assumption of Bfr2.9 billion of debt. Candover hopes that it will be able to assist Diamant Boart, which is one of only three global suppliers to the stone and construction industry, with exploiting new products and market categories.

The Bari of South America use six different types of arrows. Arrow type varies according to what type of prey is hunted. Cheaper, easier to make arrows are used for small prey. The most expensive and difficult to make arrow, the karakdosuras, is reserved for tapir hunting.
