Bell secures Huey II upgrades

Article Abstract:

Bell Helicopter has successfully secured government funding for the upgrades of 42 Huey II aircraft. Bell's success comes at the expense of Sikorsky whose anticipated order fro 30 UH-60l Black Hawks has been reduced to 18. The Huey II upgrades are designed to assist Colombian efforts to fight drug production and trafficking. The 42 new airframes are expected to be surplus US Army UH-1H which will be refurbished by Bell and delivered unarmed. The 42 kits are expected to be completed by Dec 2001.
