Belt up about green space - this small country must think bigger

Article Abstract:

It is argued that the concept of the Green Belt in the UK can be carried so far as to become an obstacle to any meaningful connection between town and country that is required for the supply of essential development sites. The tendency to 'regionalize' Britain that results in its devolution into increasingly small units is criticized.

Derek Ezra, former chairman of the National Coal Board, is devising ways to deal with the U.K.'s forthcoming elecricity crisis. He proposes the use of natural gas-powered elecricity generation and heating devices in homes. The first such appliances could be in homes by 2003.
