On farmers' objectives: a multi-criteria approach

Article Abstract:

The behavior of family farms in the 'Vega de Cordoba' county in Andalucia, Spain, is predicted using a multi-criteria approach aimed at determining the objectives of a farmer or a homogeneous group of farmers. Consistent with previous findings, results indicate that the optimization of a single objective cannot explain the actual behavior of farmers. Rather, several objectives are found to underlie the behavior of farmers.

Determination of the optimal externality: efficiency versus equity

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to examine the environmental economic problem of obtaining the optimal level of externality using a non-traditional model. The problem was characterized as a bi-criteria model under the private benefits-external costs space. A relationship between compromise programming and the optimum of the utility function was then analyzed. Results indicated novel analyses to conclusions resulting from the Pigovian and Coasian traditions.
