Birdies in the bush

Article Abstract:

There are golf courses in southern Africa which provide challenges for the more adventurous golfers. They include hippos appearing on the course, which can occur at Namibia's Katima Mulilo Gold Club in Caprivi. The Royal Maseru Golf Club, Lesotho, has no flags, since they have been stolen, but high unemployment in the region means that caddies can easily be found. The Soweto Country Club, near Johannesburg, South Africa, has narrow fairways due to lack of space, so golfers learning there have to hit straight.

A 36 club golfer

Article Abstract:

Dieter Klostermann set up CCA group in Hong Kong in 1980s. He saw a need for better leisure facilities for wealthy individuals. He set up a golf club in Taipei, Taiwan, rather than Hong Kong, since real estate is too expensive in Hong Kong. The clubs vary but are all geared to international businessmen. Klostermann plans six clubs annually in the US and Europe as well as in far eastern locations. He also aims to set up associate clubs with long-term management deals.

The travellers' club

Article Abstract:

Recent increases in the number of young people traveling the roads of Britain from music festival to music festival has caused calls for stronger vagrancy laws. The original 'hippie' type is not the problem but a new rougher element made up a rough, drug taking type called 'ravers.'
