Born-again Bermondsey

Article Abstract:

The real estate developer, Berkeley Homes (Kent), has been building new residental flats on three sites at Jacobs Island, London Docklands, England. The old warehouse buildings have been converted into modern apartments. The Springall Wharf has been designed by Architect David Wood and comprises of 29 apartments in an eight storey building. The Butler Square development includes 149 apartments in three six floor buildings. It has been designed by Lifschutz Davidson who also designed the seven storey Providence Tower building. The Providence Tower in located on the waterfront.

Solitary Sumitomo

Article Abstract:

The Japanese Sumitomo Bank will buy 52.7 per cent of Banca del Gottardo, a Swiss bank. Sumitomo has been Japan's most profitable bank for the last five years. European banks offer the opportunity for universal banking, which is illegal in the United States. Japanese financial markets may be opening up, particularly in the pension-fund management area. Japanese bank shares are rising.

Idaho pursues a spaceport

Article Abstract:

The US Department of Energy's Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory is seeking to develop a commercial spaceport for medium sized rockets in Idaho. Issues concerning the suitability of Idaho as a VentureStar site are discussed.
