Brave new world

Article Abstract:

An elderly Javanese resident of China recalls her turbulent life. Lu Sa married a member of the Chinese community living in West Java. She enjoyed a relatively wealthy lifestyle before the Indonesian government introduced measures in 1959 aimed at taking away the livelihoods of the ethnic Chinese community. The Chinese brought the community to the Chinese island of Hainan. The country was to undergo famine and then the Cultural Revolution, during which Lu Sa, now widowed, was targeted for public abuse due to her nationality. The Chinese reforms then brought tourism and feting of the Indonesian community.

Our Lady of the Rockies

Article Abstract:

A gigantic statue known as 'Our Lady of the Rockies' erected in the community of Butte, MO, symbolizes the unity forged by its people and their spirit of triumph, hope and joy during the worst of times. The statue is a likeness of Mother Mary, an icon in the Roman Catholic faith. The people of Butte considered the installation of the statue as a dream come true for all of them. It took a lot of sacrifices, heartaches, adversities and toil before the statue was installed. Work on the statue started on Dec 29, 1979, but it was only after six years that the statue was finally put in place.

The US retail industry must construct arenas for people, according to The Jerde Partnership founder Jon Jerde. He regards himself as a sculptor and a painter, and attempts to gain an insight into what is really happening in the world. In his retail projects, he aims to tell a story in order to gain widespread support for his ideas. He believes that there are good prospects for entertainment and retail developments in the older cities of the US, where recession is now coming to an end.
