Brazil awards telecoms and power mandates

Article Abstract:

Arthur D Little and Coopers & Lybrand have been appointed to carry out the financial evaluation for the privatisation of state-owned telecoms company Telebras of Brazil. Salomon Smith Barney and Morgan Stanley's consortium Brasilcom, are responsible for the design of the sale process. The privatisation is planned to completed before July 1998. The 26 Telebras companies are expected to be separated into three groups.

Brazil calls up bidders for telecoms

Article Abstract:

The privatization of Brazil's state-owned telecommunications company Telebras will commence in Apr 1998. The privatization is expected to total 20 billion US dollars and will be overseen by the Brazilian telecommunications regulator National Telecommunications Agency. The telecommunications company Telefonica is expected to bid for 54.2% of Companhia Riograndense de Telecomunicacoes.

Brazilian markets fluctuate but Telebras soars

Article Abstract:

Brazil's telecommunications utility, Telebras, was privatized in Jul 1998. Communications Minister Luiz Carlos Mendonca de Barros and National Development Bank BNDES Pres Andre Lara Resende resigned on Nov 23, 1998, amid allegations of favoritism in the privatization. Brazilian markets fluctuated but Telebras shares are increasing for the $19.01 billion US privatization.
