Breakdown in the fast lane: Japan's car industry

Article Abstract:

The automobile industry in Japan is suffering from declining profits and manufacturers are being forced to cut costs. Nissan became the first Japanese automobile maker to close down a plant since the 1940s. Profits at Toyota fell by 63% in the 1st half of 1992.

A drive on the wild side: General Motors

Article Abstract:

Smith has managed to trim losses for General Motors to about $850 million, which is a modest decrease from $1.06 billion in 1991. GM needs to reduce costs by cutting back on its workforce size and production capacity.

Has the flying lady lost her shine?

Article Abstract:

Sales for Rolls-Royce in 1991 dropped to their lowest levels since 1968. Vickers, which owns the car maker, has experienced a loss of $22 million. A recession is being blamed for the slumping sales.
