British Airways heeds the lessons of economy class. Carrier simplifies business to fend off low-cost rivals. Six billion possible fares

British Airways is rethinking how it does business in order to better compete with low-cost airlines. Prices have been reduced. Aircraft contain less expensive features. These efforts have resulted in a profit of 85 million pounds, compared with a loss of 129 million pounds last year. Other airlines are also exploring these ideas.

Branson sees Virgin territory in the U.S

Article Abstract:

The Virgin Group will finance the launch of a new low-fare airline in the U.S. in the spring of 2004. Virgin raised 240 million Australian dollars (140.9 million euros) for the new airline by selling 20% of Virgin Blue to Patrick Corp.

British Airways plans more cuts in expenditure

British Airways is planning to reduce its 1999 expenditures by an additional 225 million pounds (341.9 million euros). The carrier will implement the expenditure cuts by way of reductions in management.
