Burning up the wires: Kyocera targets a hot telecoms market

Article Abstract:

Kazuo Inamori, chairman of Japan's Kyocera Corp, predicts that telecommunications will be a significant area of growth for the company in the next five to 10 years. DDI, the long-distance carrier that he and Sachio Semmoto established in 1985, has prospered well, with $2 billion in sales and $200 million in non-consolidated profits having been achieved by Mar 31, 1993. A device that selects the least expensive route for long-distance calls is a recent DDI innovation. Moreover, in Mar 1994 DDI will be allowed to compete with Nippon Telegraph & Telephone in the digital cellular market.
