Man over machine: new gadgets make home electronics easier to use

Article Abstract:

Home electronics manufacturers have turned to interaction design and software-based systems to make their products more user-friendly. Interaction design involves the reconsideration of user needs in the manufacture of consumer electronics. However, a more immediate response to the need for coordination between product and user is presented by software-based systems, such as the VCR-Plus which allows users to program their cassette recorders by punching in number codes corresponding to programs. The codes instruct the recorder when to start or stop recording.
