Cash and Carrian

Article Abstract:

The Carrian Investments Ltd scandal in the 1980s continues to cast doubts among investors even as the shares and property markets in Hong Kong continue to soar. Carrian started its phenomenal rise in 1980 when it bought Gammon House in the Central financial district. This began a series of real estate acquisitions which attracted bankers to this unknown entity at that time. However, the impending reversion of Hong Kong to Chinese control caused the stockmarket and currency to tumble. After the downfall of Carrian, the Hong Kong government does not seem inclined to remedy the causes of the situation.
