Article Abstract:

The British Monopolies and Mergers Commission (MMC) is investigating reports that retailers and manufacturers have conspired to fix prices. Electrical appliance and consumer electronics makers are under special scrutiny and the MMC may recommend that manufacturers may not suggest retail prices.

Japanese electronics companies are about to enter the flat-screen TV market, where they will have fewer competitors than in the market for liquid crystal displays. Flat screens are expected to play a role in the desk-top market and in the convergence of the TV and the PC.
