CARREFOUR

Article Abstract:

The French distribution group Carrefour has been present in Turkey for the last 5 years. In December 1997, the group opened a second hypermarket in Adana in association with the local group Sabanci. In 1999, two further units will open at Izmit and Izmir. Before the year 2005, the group foresees owning 20 shops in the country. Due to very high customs duty, 95% of products proposed by the group are of Turkish origin. To maximise profits, the group will rent out half of its surface area to boutiques.
