U.K. car production in 1994 reached 1.47 million units, against 1.38 million units in 1993. Passenger car imports for the year rose by 20% to 904,201 units, with Germany being the leading supplier. U.K. passenger car exports for 1994 totalled some 483,400 units, up 11% from 1993, with Germany being a major export destination. Ford is the leading new car maker, although Japanese players, such as Toyota and Nissan, are increasing their presence in the European market.

Volume sales of new cars in the U.K. totalled an estimated 1.8 million units in 1994, valued at 19.4 billion pounds sterling. Some 66% of demand was accounted for by hatchback models, while sales of executive and sports cars declined. The leading player in the market is Ford, with some 21% of all new car sales in 1994. It is expected that volume sales of new cars will reach 2.07 million units, worth 20.5 billion pounds sterling, by 1999.

The UK's scooter market was worth around 131 million pounds sterling in 1999, with a volume of 75,000 units, up 387% from 1996. The market is forecast to reach 155,000 scooters, valued at 302 million pounds sterling, by 2004.
