Article Abstract:

The Indian governmentEs two months deadline to cable-television viewers in metropolitan cities viz. Calcutta, Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai to buy set-top boxes as required under the newly introduced conditional access system has been described. The reasons for the introduction of conditional access system and its repercussions on broadcasters, cable-television operators and cable-television subscribers have been mentioned.

Slow burn. U.S. energy companies are learning yet again that getting paid in India is not a sure thing

Article Abstract:

PSEG Global, El Paso Energy, CMS Energy, and Covanta Energy are owed $150 million for providing electricity in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The companies have evidently been so exasperated that they have lobbied the U.S. Congress to block all but humanitarian aid to Tamil Nadu. At the same time, India's national government is examining ways to improve its electric industry.

IndiaEs industrial growth rate has been progressing at a rapid rate over the preceding nine months; reasons for this, such as lower interest rates, higher spending and increase in private investments are examined. The projected GDP growth for the coming financial year and the role of fiscal deficit are also discussed.
