Chile looks to sale of Tocopilla

Article Abstract:

The Chilean government is expected to sell the state-owned electric utility Tocopilla SA in 1995. The 613 MW, coal-fired power station has a book value of some $300 milliom and belongs to state-owned copper producer Corporacion Chilena de Cobre (Codelco). The proposed sale is part of Codelco's plan to refocus on its core copper mining interests. Some 51% of the plant will be sold to an international associate while the remainder will be offered to the workers or on the stock exchange. Tocopilla reported a profit of $24.8 million in 1995.

Dutch to privatise their largest pension fund

Article Abstract:

The civil seervant pension fund ABP of the Netherlands is to be privatised following agreement of terms by the Dutch home affairs ministry and civil servant unions. The agreement will mean the lifting of government restrictions on ABP's investment policy and will allow ABP to the pension fund and insurance market in the private sector.

Polish government underwrites IPOs

Article Abstract:

The Polish government has underwritten IPOs in Bank Przemyslowo-Handlowy (BPH) and Polfa Kutno, a pharmaceutical company, which are both to be privatized. The underwriting agreement for BPH has been signed with EBRD and Daiwa Bank. The IPO underwritten in Polfa Kutno will be undertaken through a tender.
