China gets attention, India gets returns

Article Abstract:

Investors interested in the Asian market should pay equal attention to Chinese and Indian investment opportunities. Some of the reasons India deserves attention are the fact that Indian companies are on average better managed than Chinese companies, Indian mutual funds have historically done better than Chinese mutual funds, and the fact that direct investment in China by US companies has been unprofitable at best. Both countries have a unique downsides, making balanced investing in both countries a wise choice.

China's Class B sector shows promise

Article Abstract:

China's Class B share companies earnings are showing signs of recovery in 1997, following three years of declining profits. The companies, particularly those in Shanghai and Shenzen, have reported higher earnings after the central bank twice lowered interest rates, input prices fell and there was a general easing of credit controls. Analysts believe the listed companies, barring any major political disturbance, will continue to profit for two to three years.
